Texas is turning to dust!

Really wanted to check out the LBJ National Grassland north of Dallas today.  Stopped in at the Visitor Center to see where the best, but closest, place to try would be.  The woman behind the counter suggested Clear Lake.  So off I went.  Found it fairly easily.  Not much of anything is green.  Definitely no nectar.  Saw two butterflies (yes two, count them; one, two) in about 20 minutes, so decided to hit the road.  By the way, both of the two bflies were Common Wood Nymphs.
My last few stops I have typically been welcomed by emperor butterflies landing on me.  Not so today.  Today's welcoming party was a group of very friendly cows.  I pulled in to the parking area on the bike and the cows came racing over (bet you never thought of cows racing!).  Two of them walked right up to me, probably could have petted their heads without even getting off the bike.  Usually I don't care much for cows, guess I've heard too many stories of cows chasing people.  These cows didn't seem the chasing type.  One concern I did have though was that they would rub up against the motorcycle and knock it over.  Fortunately, a few minutes after I pulled up their owner/rancher/cowboy pulled up in his truck and they raced over to play with him instead.
Only other butterflies I saw today were occassional monarchs crossing the road heading south, including one that got smashed on my headlight.  :(

Today's lone species, Common Wood Nymph
